La Palma volcano: Residents told lock down as white-hot magma spews deadly toxic gas
RESIDENTS in 4 municipalities of La Palma have been ordered to lock down over fears of toxic gases from the volcano being inhaled.
They have been ordered to seal doors and windows with tape and wet towels and wear face coverings to protect their nose and mouth.
This comes after the lava from the volcano reached the sea, 10 days after it first erupted, sending a pyramid of lava 50 metres into the air.
An exclusion zone has been declared 3.5km around where the lava entered the sea.
No injuries have so far been reported.

Lava flowing into the sea creates platform more than half a kilometre wide
The lava flowing into the sea has created a platform more than half a kilometre wide.
This will continue to grow as more lava flows into the sea.
Vicente Soler, from the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), explained that this platform "generates clouds of gases in contact with the water".
This can be harmful to peoples's health which is why the authorities have warned people not to approach to witness the phenomenon.

Wind keeps toxic gases away from humans
The wind has so far kept the column of steam and toxic gases, away from residents of La Palma.
However, 4 municipalities are still under lock down as this could change at any moment.
