Joe Biden cabinet: Who has Joe Biden chosen for his cabinet?
JOE BIDEN and Vice President-elect Senator Kamala Harris will take office on January 20 as they are sworn in to the US's highest office. But who has Joe Biden chosen for his cabinet?
Joe Biden: Expert on impact of election win on democratic states
Although the election took place on November 3, Mr Biden will not officially become president until more than two months after the result. The time between the US election and inauguration enables the incumbent president to tie up any loose ends, and for the President-elect to prepare for his tenure by working on policies and appointing his cabinet. Still refusing to accept the election result, President Donald Trump is trying to contest the outcome through legal means. But Mr Biden assures nothing will stop the transfer of power taking place, even if Mr Trump continues on with his claims of election fraud.
Members of Mr Biden’s cabinet will assume office after the 46th president is inaugurated in January.
They will also have to undergo a confirmation by the United States senate.
All members of the Cabinet of the US require the advice and consent of the US Senate following appointment by the President.
The Vice-Presidency is the only exception in that the position requires election to office via the US constitution, and as the Vice Presidency isn’t a constitutionally created position, most do not require Senate confirmation for appointment.
