Russia's FSB security service 'neutralises Islamic State terrorist cell' in the snow
AN Islamic State cell has been wiped out by Russia’s FSB security service, it was claimed today.
Pictures show the bodies of two “terrorists” after a bloody shootout in the snow in Stavropol region. The IS suspects were “neutralised” after firing at Federal Security Service (FSB) officers. Possessions including a firearm allegedly belonging to the suspects were shown in pictures released by the counterintelligence agency.
The FSB did not say how many members of the alleged cell were eliminated.
“The gunmen offered armed resistance to the Russian Federal Security Service special forces unit,” said an FSB statement.
"Members of the Islamic State international terrorist organisation were neutralised by return fire.”
There were no FSB casualties in the gun battle, said the agency.
A criminal case was opened under Russia’s terrorist laws.
The FSB prevented nearly 20 terrorist attacks in Russia during 2018, a year in which it hosted the FIFA World Cup, its press service claimed.
