Man baffled after discovering a 'door to nowhere' in his new house
After moving into his new property, a man took to Reddit to express his confusion over a mystery door in his bathroom that he couldn't open.
A man has admitted he was left baffled after discovering a "door to nowhere" in his new property.
In a snap shared to Reddit, the door sits at the back of his bathroom nestled between two windows and only "partially opens" despite it having no visible lock. "Just moved into a new place and this door is the bathroom is very perplexing," the man penned in the Weird subreddit.
He continued: "I guess it must just be decorative - but when I try to open it the bottom opens just not the top. Landlord has a plant in front of it so I guess it’s not for use - but still I find it weird. Why even put a 'door' there? And why does it partially open?
"There are no visible locks but I cannot open it. Probably nothing - but I find it weird."
Fellow Reddit users were quick to offer a variety of explanations, with person explaining: "My grandma's house had a door like that in her bathroom, when you opened it there was an ironing board that would fold out of the wall."
Another speculated: "Since there's a window on each side, I'm assuming that's an exterior door. Maybe this wasn't a bathroom before ,- could have been a bedroom, a porch, a utility room - and he sealed it up for safety's sake.
"If you really want to know, go around the outside of the house and look for signs of steps or a path from that point. As for why he left it instead of sealing it up."
A third suggested: "Just open it and if it breaks, get it replaced without mentioning it to your landlord. If he says something just say you accidentaly broke the mirror and had to get it replaced. You never know what it could be, maybe it opens only on the other side and its a tunnel or something weird like that."
Whilst a fourth joked: "Maybe it's a giant medicine cabinet or a gateway to Narnia, or maybe a weird mirror that someone didn't know what to do with."

The ideas prompted the tenant to have another stab at opening the door, but alas, it wouldn't budge. "Trying to open the door, but the top is stuck so I was trying to see if I could just jam the knife in to open it but alas I need to take the hinges off," he cursed later in the day.
However, an update followed in the same subreddit 24 hours later, with the man expressing his delight that he'd finally managed to see what was inside. In a post titled, "UPDATE on the bizarre door to nowhere", he revealed: "After slicing open the paint stuck to the hinges and literally pulling with my entire body weight VOILA! A boring find lol.
"Not very weird but wanted to post this in case anyone was curious. Seems to have been either a medicine cabinet or ironing closet at some point. Most exciting thing was that there was a mini pipe in there LOL. Sorry that is not a portal for hell guys!"
"I salute you for providing the update. Even if it isn't exciting, it's still a resolution to a minor mystery," hailed on grateful Redditor afterwards.
"Such comedy potential - an ironing board could have come out and hit you on the head with a 3 Stooges BONK! sound," quipped a second person.
A third enthused: "That's a cool little space. Make the knob smaller and less noticeable, put a nice picture on the closed side of the door and a lock, and you have a low-key safe. Out of sight is out of mind."
Whilst a fourth said: "My parents had one of these in their 1884 Victorian home, they put shelves in it and used it as a medicine cabinet."
