Met Office issues urgent weather warning as UK braces for 18-hour washout

The Met Office has warned of flooding as parts of the UK prepare for an 18-hour washout in the coming days.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for rain, with flooding likely in some homes, businesses and campsites.

The 18-hour yellow alert is in place, with four UK regions being warned of a washout between 3am and 9pm on Monday, August 5.

The areas affected by the warning are Stratchclyde, Highlands & Eilean Siar, Central, Tayside & Fife and Dumfries, Galloway, Lothian & Borders, all in Scotland.

Motorists should prepare for longer journey times due to spray and flooding on the roads.

There is a possibility of flooding affecting a few homes, businesses, and campsites. Bus and train services are likely to experience delays, leading to longer journey times for passengers.

A slow-moving band of rain is expected to move across the affected regions, bringing substantial rainfall amounts.

The general area can expect 20-40 mm of rain, while higher ground in Lochaber, Argyll, the Trossachs, and possibly Dumfries and Galloway could see 50-75 mm of rain.

Strong and gusty southerly winds will accompany the rain, with a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

The Met Office advises residents and travelers to take several precautions.

Check if your property is at risk of flooding and consider preparing a flood plan and assembling an emergency flood kit if necessary.
