New weather maps predict that the UK could be hit with another warm airmass early next week, sparking a heatwave.

The Met Office predicts a build of warmth and humidity once more following the scorching temperatures across much of the UK this week.

However, temperatures are not expected to be as high and could be followed by some thunderstorms over southeast England on Tuesday.

Forecasters predict that the recent heatwave conditions for much of England and Wales are gradually subsiding and will be replaced by a cooler airmass.

This will likely introduce some persistent rain in places over the weekend and into next week, the Met Office reported.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Andy Page said: “The recent influence of high pressure on the UK’s weather is now subsiding and is being replaced by more of a dominant westerly weather regime.

"This is seeing temperatures dip back towards average for the time of year for many but will also open the door to some more persistent rain into northwestern areas in the coming days.”

But a massive European plume of hot air is expected to hit the UK in the second week of August.

From August 10 and 11 maps show vast swathes of England and Wales baking in temperatures above 30C in what would be the third heatwave of the summer.

UK five-day weather forecast

A band of rain, locally heavy at first, will continue to move eastwards across the UK overnight but weakening as it does so. Fresher with clear spells following, but remaining rather humid across southern and eastern areas.

Saturday:

Rain slowly clearing the southeast through the day. Sunny spells elsewhere with well-scattered showers across Northern Ireland and Scotland. Feeling fresher for all, but still pleasantly warm.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Largely dry and bright on Sunday, but rain spreading into the northwest later. The rain then gradually sinks southeastwards on Monday and Tuesday, but turning increasingly warmer ahead of this.
