BBC Weather: Flooding and travel chaos warning issued as weekend brings huge thunderstorms
BBC WEATHER has forecast a drop in temperatures as heavy rain moves across the country throughout the weekend resulting in a yellow weather warning for flooding and travel disruption.
BBC weather: Yellow warning issued for rain across UK
BBC Weather warned of intense rainfall over the weekend and chance of thunderstorms as the Met Office has issued a yellow rain warning. Throughout Friday there will be a north-south divide where northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland will see the wettest weather. BBC weather forecaster Nick Miller said: “We will all notice it turning cooler through the weekend just as September gets underway.
“Today it is a north-south split, Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England with most of the cloud bringing some rain.
“The dry sunny weather is the further south you are.
“The reason for that is because in the northern half of the UK you are closer to low pressure and this weather front will hang around here for 24 hours or so.
“It will then move southwards on Saturday with sunshine and showers following on behind.

“But close to that weather front, there is some rain to be had especially in parts of Western Scotland, Northern Ireland and north-west England into Cumbria in particular.
“You could see the odd pulse of rain running through parts of northeast England and eastern Scotland.
“But much of Yorkshire down through East Anglia across southern England and the Midlands will be mainly dry this afternoon and temperatures for some close to the mid-20s.”
Despite the north-south divide in weather temperatures and rainfall are set to increase throughout the country as Britons go through the weekend.
Hurricane Dorian: Weather chart shows Florida to be hit by storm
This will be felt during the nighttime temperatures in addition to the peak temperatures during the day.
Mr Miller continued: “Into Friday night the rain is going to turn heavier for Northern Ireland and the western parts of Scotland.
“The intensity of the rain is really starting to kick in.
“Overnight much of England and Wales is going to be dry and temperatures holding up in double figures but nights about to turn colder too.

“Not a washout day as there will be sunny spells in-between the showers but if you catch a shower it could be heavy and possibly thundery.”
