UK weather forecast: Flood warnings in place as Britain braces for monster rain pounding
OFFICIAL Met Office weather warnings are in place for parts of England and Scotland as the UK braces for another day of heavy rain, especially for northern parts of the country.
Warnings are in place for parts of Lancashire and southern and central Scotland, with a risk of flooding in both areas. The driest weather is expected in the south of England and Wales, though even here sharp showers are likely. Some of the rain will stay around for the beginning of next week, which will see a mixture of sunshine and showers.
Met Office meteorologist Becky Mitchell commented: “There is some rain to come again today but the winds will be lighter for many of us in England and Wales.
“That being said it is a windy start across parts of the Northern Isles this morning, brisk northerly winds making it feel quite chilly out there.
“For the rest of Scotland some heavy rain to come across central and southern parts, that does bring a further risk of flooding and some tricky travelling conditions this morning.
“Elsewhere cloudy for Northern Ireland, parts of northern England but some brighter spells for the rest of England and Wales.”

Through the day the rain will weaken a little over Scotland, but it will remain cloudy and wet.
The south of Wales and southern and central England will have the least rain, but there could still be some powerful showers.
Ms Mitchell added: “The winds generally will be lighter across the south compared to Saturday so in any sunshine it should feel quite pleasant, temperatures reaching highs of 23 degrees.
“But much cooler further north, highs of just 16 or 17 in parts of Scotland so feeling pretty chilly compared to recently.”

Temperatures will remain cool next week, with a mixture of sunshine and showers on Monday and Tuesday.
However heavy rain is expected to return on Wednesday.
