A LEARNER driver has been jailed after he sped through a tunnel during a dramatic police chase - at 100mph.
Learner driver Rahiah Powell-Grant took police on a 100mph chase
Rahiah Powell-Grant was flagged down by police but sped off, jumping red lights and swerving dangerously before he was eventually stopped.
The 21-year-old father-to-be had no driving licence or insurance at the time of the chase through Medway, Kent, in the early hours of New Year's Day.
He hit 100mph in the Medway Tunnel in an attempt to escape arrest, as he was on licence for previous offences, but was stopped in Pond Hill, Cliffe, shortly after.
Powell-Grant admitted dangerous driving and having no licence or insurance
Powell-Grant, from Strood, admitted dangerous driving and having no licence or insurance when he appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court on January 2.

The case was committed to Maidstone Crown Court where a judge jailed him for a year and banned him from driving for 22 months.

He said: "You could have ploughed into any of them.

"You drove directly at a police car which had to swerve to avoid a collision.
"Thankfully, and I am sure just by luck, nobody was hurt."
Recorder Van Der Zwart said it would have shown remorse on Powell-Grant's part if he had owned up to what he had done when interviewed, instead of remaining silent.
He added: "It lasted half an hour or so and was an appalling piece of driving.
"You panicked because you were subject to licence at the time."
The maximum sentence for dangerous driving is two years imprisonment.
