Shake-up for school sports
A DRASTIC overhaul of physical education in schools is expected after it emerged some pupils are not even breaking a sweat during sports lessons.
A critical report by schools inspectorate Ofsted, to be published this month, is due to reveal children spend more time listening to a teacher talk about exercise rather than doing it.
The quality of PE was so poor, particularly in primary schools, it found that some panicked pupils thought they were having a heart attack after exercise, as they had never exerted themselves.
Education Minister Michael Gove is due to unveil a new strategy for PE in schools, including a return to competitive sports from the age of seven.
