Michael Gove: I’ll fight for O-levels
MICHAEL Gove will today accuse teaching unions and exam chiefs of undermining ambition and excellence so they can enjoy a “quiet life.”
The Education Secretary’s speech will come ahead of a Commons vote tonight on a Labour motion condemning his call for tougher exams, including the return of O-levels.
He will say: “There has been a persistent prejudice against excellence which makes everything an excuse for failure and never demands or expects success.
“That is why we have to reform our discredited examination system.
“It has worked against excellence and ambition just when we need more excellence and greater ambition.”
