A family from the USA is moving to a UK seaside town recommended by AI. Ashley Anne O'Brien and her family, from Florida, have decided to leave their home because of the Donald Trump administration and asked ChatGPT where the best place to live in Britain was.

As her husband is British, Ashley was keen for their children to be exposed to UK culture. She told ChatGPT that the family was interested in moving to a tourist town close to the sea. She added they were keen to live close to amenities such as a theatre and tennis courts.

The software recommended Torquay in South Devon. Ashley immediately researched the town, located in Torbay and known as the English Riviera, and fell in love with what she saw.

The mother-of-two said: "It's a larger town compared to Sidmouth and Exmouth, and they seem to have more amenities due to having more people. When I spoke to my husband about it, he had very good memories of visiting Torquay, so that made us hone in on. The dream is to find a bed and breakfast there where someone is retiring.

"Maybe we could take over the bed and breakfast, and my husband can make the full English breakfast, and I'll be in the back baking bread, making biscuits and blueberry muffins. And just have a different kind of life - I think that sounds beautiful to me."

Torquay is known for its beautiful coastline, scenic beaches and warm microclimate. It's popular among families and retirees looking for a quieter place to live.

ChatGPT noted the stunning beach front as well as local sites such as Kents cavern, Babbacombe Model Village and The Babbacombe Cliff Railway. Ashley is now hoping her family will move to the town by the end of summer and open a bed and breakfast.

They have decided to leave the US because Trump's presidency has started to become "too much". Ashley said she is starting to feel "anxious all the time" in America and wants her family to live a normal life.

She explained: "Everything that happened in the past year, from DOGE cuts to government services and research, to making Canada and Greenland states, to insulting Zelensky based on his clothes, to ICE detention centres and the shootings of Good and Pretti."

She also noted The Epstein Files and the current conflict in Iran as reasons to leave the US. Ashley added that he has already joined a number of Torquay Facebook groups to get in touch with locals.

She added: "It feels like an adventure but also feels like a new part of our life is going to start and that's really amazing. I joined groups on Facebook so I can hear more about the local community and understand what are the things they are annoyed with and what kind of festivals they are having. That's so now I can just see what their lives are like."
