Heartbreak as popular restaurant in UK seaside town closes its doors - 'great sadness'
The restaurant was ranked as the number one place to eat in the town on TripAdvisor.
A popular family-run restaurant has closed after six years of business. The owners of the bistro-style restaurant left a letter on the door to confirm the permanent closure with "great sadness", thanking everyone for their support.
Coast, located in Holywood, Northern Ireland, closed on Tuesday (May 12) due to rising operating costs and increasing financial pressures. It opened in 2020 and was ranked the number one place to eat in the town on TripAdvisor. Many visitors praised the excellent food, friendly service and reasonable pricing of the restaurant.
As reported by Belfast Live, a letter left on the door of the restaurant reads: "It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we have permanently closed the doors of Coast today.
"It has been our joy to build relationships with our customers and we thank you for your loyalty. However, ever rising costs have made financial viability impossible.
"We have put our heart and soul (as well as our savings) into the business to give Team Coast steady employment and we thank each and every one of you for your contribution and wish you well for the future."
According to the Coast website, the restaurant was renowned for "serving the very best food in the most atmospheric and comfortable of surroundings."
The website added: "We have a licensed front pavement cafe with patio heaters when needed, and an extensive rear garden seating over thirty people in a well-spaced yet sheltered setting. (Again, if needed, patio heaters are available). This area is also fully licensed and when the sun shines it really is a ‘sun trap’ where you can enjoy a good meal accompanied by fine wines, beers and cocktails."
'Amazing food' and 'amazing service'
Coast, which is now labelled as closed on TripAdvisor, was ranked as the best place too eat in Holywood. Visitors noted the quality food and affordable prices.
