We’re no experts on ballet or opera
TWO-thirds of Britons don’t know their opera from their pizza, according to a survey.
Sixty-one per cent believe the opera classic La Traviata is a type of pizza topping, according to a poll by Apollo Cinemas.
One in five insisted Puccini’s La Boheme was a clothes shop chain, and more than half said Beethoven’s masterpiece Fidelio was dog food.
But the most worrying result from the research was the fact that when people were asked who Wagner was, almost three quarters chose X Factor hopeful Wagner Carrilho instead of the German composer.
Rob Arthur, managing director at Apollo Cinemas, said: “The nation’s knowledge of opera and ballet is very worrying.
“These two are amazing and engaging art forms – and we are passionate about bringing them to the masses.”
