The incredible moment a brave pensioner dragged a thief off her bike after it was stolen from her has been captured on video.

Thieves attempted to drive away on the vehicle but the woman was seen grabbing onto the clothing of the person on the back in an attempt to stop them getting away.

The incident, which took place in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, was recorded by someone in a nearby cafe and uploaded to an X page called ‘London & UK Street News’.

From the footage, it would appear that one thief managed to ride the bike away while the other was left stuck on the floor after being dragged to the ground by the woman.

Police were called at around 11.35am on Tuesday (24 September) to report an attempted theft of a bicycle in Shenley Road, Borehamwood.

It was reported that two women on an electric scooter were seen trying to steal a bicycle that had been left outside of Starbucks. A passersby intervened and the women left the scene.

In a recent push to prevent the stealing of vehicles, Herefordshire Police said: “As the evenings get darker, Welwyn Hatfield’s Chief Inspector is reminding motorists to secure their vehicles.

Chief Inspector, Pete Frost, said: “We tend to see a rise in vehicle crime as we enter into Autumn and the evenings get darker. Welwyn Hatfield has recently seen a spike in these offences and I want to remind motorists of the steps they can take to protect their vehicle.

“I also want to take this opportunity to reassure residents that we are increasing our operational activity to target vehicle crime. We will be sharing the results of these operations with you.

“One of the simplest tips I can give is to lock your vehicle – even if you are just nipping back in your home to get something. That can still be enough time for a thief to gain access.”

Anyone with any information is asked to report it via 101 or herts.police.uk/contact, quoting ISR 278 of 24/09.
