Men 'try to start fight' with 'Palestine supporters'

Police had to get between a breakaway angry mob of Tommy Robinson supporters and counter demonstrators.

Video shared on X shows a group of men trying to get to someone who they complain is being "protected" by police.

Further ahead someone is seen holding a Palestine flag, but it is not clear if that is who they were after.

The men shout expletives at someone and try to follow but are told to get back to a police cordon by officers.

One shouts: "I'll f**king smash you, f***ing c***s."

He then says: "They're protecting him," before a female officer orders them back.

The footage then stops.

The poster of the clip said: "Tommy Robinson supporters try to start fight with pro-Palestine protestor walking through Trafalgar Square.

"The Palestine supporters needed to be escorted through the area by police as they were pelted and screamed at by Robinson fans."

One man was later arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and a racially aggravated public order offence after he allegedly snapped a Palestinian flag and made a racially abusive remark.

Another man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and a racially aggravated public order offence after a police officer was kicked.

Thousands of "Tommy Robinson" supporters had mobbed the capital today as they held what they described as as “the biggest patriotic show of force this country has ever seen."

The Strand was flooded with England flags as marchers, including controversial actor Laurence Fox, made their way to Trafalgar Square for speeches and music.

There were 1,000 police officers on standby amid fears over clashes with a counter demo organised by Stand Up To Racism, attended by former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Despite the clashes, the event passed off relatively peacefully after Robinson appealed on X the night before for people to "not drink too much" and to avoid violence.

There were some Islamophobic chants heard and police had to hold back some Robinson supporters from getting to counter demonstrators.

Police locked down the Cenotaph war memorial in London, as the force confirmed a "Stand Up To Racism" protester was attacked.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of GBH after a counter demonstrator received a head injury, police said.

A third group, Trans Pride, also held an event starting from Langham Place ending at Wellington Arch.

One person was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a steward at the Trans Pride event.

At 6.16pm The Met posted on X: "The protest organised by Tommy Robinson has now ended.

"Nearby pubs are busy with people who had been at the protest and officers will remain in the area to keep people safe and to respond to any incidents."
