Police have warned counter-protesters not to head to Trafalgar Square amid fears of a showdown with thousands of people on a march led by far right activist Tommy Robinson which is holding speeches there until 5.30pm today.

Flyers posted on X by counter demo organiser Stand Up to Racism said they would march from Russel Square to Trafalgar Square also.

But, the Met Police, which has 1,000 officers on standby has put conditions in place meaning the county rally should end at Whitehall, and earlier at 4pm, in a bid to avoid violent clashes.

Thousands of people have already arrived in London for both marches.

Video shared on X shows a huge crowd with Union Jack and England flags on the Strand outside the Royal Courts of Justice.

Separately, protesters for a Stand up to Racism counter demo are also amassing.

The force tweeted: "Some flyers online suggest the Stand Up To Racism march will finish in Trafalgar Square. This isn't the case.

There are conditions requiring it to finish in Whitehall.

"We need to keep opposing groups apart to keep the peace. We'll take action against any breaches of conditions."
