Actor-turned-politician Laurence Fox has joined the far-right demo with Tommy Robinson at the head of the march.

Thousands of people with England flags and Union Jacks are on the far right demo heading to Trafalgar Square, while a counter demo by Stand up to Racism takes place.

About 1,000 people are on standby trying to separate the groups.

A statement by Stand Up to Racism said: “We’re proud to be supporting the ‘Stop Tommy Robinson’ demonstration alongside a host of unions and organisations.

“Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, is a former member of the Nazi BNP and founder of the English Defence League, and is mobilising a significant number of far-right thugs onto the streets of London.

"On 1st June, he gathered over 5,000 individuals for an extremely Islamophobic event where dangerous rhetoric echoed Nazi slogans. He is now claiming even larger numbers for 27th July. It is imperative that we respond with a mass protest to show that we will not tolerate fascism in our society."

Robinson posted: "Uniting the kingdom on the 27th of July. Please take our cause seriously, it's make or break. Mature, sensible behaviour will win us the hearts and minds of the wider public."

The Met published maps last night saying Mr Robinson's group had to assemble along The Strand and Fleet Street before heading down Aldwych and back along The Strand to Trafalgar Square, where they must remain until the event finishes at 5.30pm.

Participants in the protest organised by Stand Up To Racism must not commence their procession until 1.30pm or until otherwise directed to by a police officer.

Anyone participating in the protest must not deviate from a route from Russell Square to Whitehall via Emban
