Met Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has been filmed grabbing a journalist's microphone and throwing it on the floor as he stormed out of a Cobra meeting this morning.

The Met Commissioner attended the meeting in Westminster on Monday in response to the wave of violent riots happening across Britain.

He was asked a question about two-tier policing as he left the Cabinet Office, before taking hold of the journalist's mic and dropping it.

As the Met Commissioner left the meeting, he was asked a question about two-tier policing, but Sir Mark grabbed a Sky journalist's microphone and dropped it to the ground before walking off while other members of the press followed him.

Downing Street called an emergency Cobra response meeting today (August 5), this involved relevant ministers and police representatives who discussed the response in the coming days to ensure there is no repeat of the violent scenes.

This comes after Humza Yousaf called for the Army to be deployed in a bid to stop thugs unleashing chaos across the UK as riots continue across the country. 

Police clashed with crowds as the escalating violence – one week on from the Southport stabbings – continued over the weekend across the country.

Masked men hurled lengths of wood, chairs and bottles with some spraying fire extinguishers at police officers amid the 700-strong crowd.

Meanwhile, a large crowd gathered outside a mosque in Middlesbrough on Sunday night and others have also been targeted. There were 43 arrests, and significant damage was caused to the Crown Court and the University, Cleveland Police said.
