The incident unfolded as Sir Mark was leaving a Cobra meeting, convened to discuss the riots seen across the UK over the weekend.

Sir Mark Rowley yanks journalist's microphone in Westminster

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley is in hot water after he was filmed grabbing a journalist's microphone before throwing it on the ground.

The incident unfolded as Sir Mark was leaving a Cobra meeting on Monday. Reporters were trying to ask the police chief questions. One journalist said: “Are you going to end two-tier policing?”

Sir Mark then grabbed a microphone from a crew and chucked it on the floor without saying anything. The Cobra meeting was called in the wake of multiple riots led by far-right groups across the UK, sparked after the death of three young girls in Southport.

Suspect Axel Rudakubana, 17, is accused of killing the girls in a knife attack. Following the incident, false claims were spread online saying that the suspect had links to Islam.

Over the weekend, numerous mosques in the UK were targeted by thugs.

Hostels holding asylum seekers were also attacked in Rotherham and Tamworth. Some even tried to set the buildings on fire during the horrific riots.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “The Commissioner had a positive and constructive meeting with the Prime Minister and partners across government and policing.

“He was in a hurry to return to New Scotland Yard to take action on the agreed next steps.”

Another man under pressure to deal with the violence across the UK is Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. After the Cobra meeting, he said: “There are a number of actions that came out of the meeting.

“The first is we will have a standing army of specialist public duty officers so that we will have enough officers to deal with this where we need them.

“The second is we will ramp up criminal justice. There have already been hundreds of arrests, some have appeared in court this morning.

“I have asked for early consideration of the earliest naming and identification of those involved in the process who will feel the full force of the law.”
