Police chiefs urge people to 'get tested if drink is spiked'
Police chiefs on Tuesday urged anyone who thinks their drink has been spiked - even if they have taken drugs themselves - to get tested within 12 hours.
Police chiefs say if people get tested properly they will be able to provide more accurate results
The National Police Chiefs’ Council issued new guidance to encourage more people to get tested. They said: “If you tell the police how much you have drunk and whether you have voluntarily taken drugs, we will be able to provide more accurate results.
“It is not a crime to have illegal drugs in your system (unless you are driving), so please don’t let this stop you reporting spiking. The test we use is the most effective way of finding out whether you have been spiked.”
They added that a police test is also needed as evidence to support charges or convictions.
