Shocking A14 incident sees 16 migrants rescued from back of refrigerated lorry
SIXTEEN people are now in the care of immigration services after they were rescued from the back of a refrigerated lorry on the A14 near Swavesey in Cambridgeshire.
Drivers who passed a police incident on Saturday (June 26) reported seeing people being removed from the back of a lorry on the A14. It is now reported that 16 people were rescued and are now in the care of immigration services.
One woman who drove past the scene said she saw approximately 15 emergency vehicles surrounding the lorry and backing up the slip road between the Cambridge services near Boxworth village.
The woman told CambridgeshireLive: “We saw a white arctic lorry with the back doors open on the slip road heading away from the A14 Cambridge services.”
Cambridgeshire Police closed the slip road and reportedly created a blockade around the lorry to bring it to a halt.

Warning drivers about the incident, Cambridgeshire Police tweeted: “A14 on slip from the Cambridge Services towards the A1M and the Midlands is currently closed due to an incident. Please avoid the area.”
The slip road reopened later that day.
