Manchester emergency: Two taken to hospital after ‘chemical hazard’ at school sparks panic
TWO people have been taken to hospital after reports of a "chemical hazard" at a school in Manchester after two fire engines were called to the scene.
Emergency crews attended incident on Old Hall Road at about 1.45pm today. Police confirmed the incident was a 'chemical hazard' at a school, without naming which one. Two people were subsequently taken to nearby Wythenshawe Hospital.
Details are yet to emerge about the extent of the injuries which the pair have suffered.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At around 1.50pm this afternoon, two fire engines from Sale and Stretford fire stations were called to reports of a hazardous substance incident on Old Hall Road, Sale.
"Fire crews arrived quickly and assisted a man and a woman who were assessed by paramedics at the scene before being conveyed to hospital by colleagues from North West Ambulance Service.
"Firefighters used breathing apparatus and specialist equipment to ventilate the building and gave safety advice.
"Crews were in attendance for just over an hour and a half.”
A Greater Manchester Police statement said: "At around 1.45pm today (Thursday 3 December 2020) police were called by the ambulance service to reports of a chemical hazard at a school on Old Hall Road in Sale.
"Emergency services attended."
A North West Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 13.40 and we attended the scene with two ambulances, an advanced paramedic, a rapid response vehicle and two members of our Hazardous Area Response Team.
"We have taken two patients to Wythenshawe Hospital."
