Major police incident - Armed police and dog units surround Essex road
ARMED police and dog units surrounded a road in Essex in a major police incident with a helicopter circling overhead which ended in the arrests of two men, local media reports.
A huge armed police presence responded after an almost 50-mile chase down the A12 to Shenfield.
15 police cars swarmed York Road in Shenfield after the suspects allegedly hid in a garden.
Local resident and LBC commentator Russell Quirk saw the event unfolding as he was taking his dog for a walk.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, he said: “I was walking the dog with my kids and we could see something was going on.
“The helicopter was obviously searching for something because it was circling, not just hovering.
“There was an enormous police presence and there seemed to be a lot of confusion.
“Police cars were darting in and out of the road.
“But Shenfield doesn’t even have a police station, so it was quite reassuring to see such a huge presence.”
A woman said she saw the two suspects hide in her garden.
She told Essex Live: “I ran to lock the doors and then quickly I heard lots of kerfuffle and swearing. They were basically hiding in my garden.
"The dogs got them. One was under the barbecue and the other was under my car."
Two males were arrested after officers pursued their Volkswagen Golf from Weeley, in Tendring, to Shenfield – according to local media.
They are said to have been arrested on suspicion of the aggravated taking a motor vehicle without consent, failing to stop for a police officer and dangerous driving.
