'It's a real shame' Lorraine Kelly expresses her concerns over thin celebrities
TV PRESENTER Lorraine Kelly has expressed her concern over the thin appearance of today's celebrities.
The Scott said that she felt there was too much pressure on young girls to look them, especially in today's society where they are reprimanded for eating too much.
Speaking to Radio Times magazine, she said: "Our children, God love them, have never been fatter, eating and drinking themselves into an early grave, and we hold up these images of teeny, tiny, beany, weeny people and say, 'That's what you're supposed to be like'.
"I mean, you see these people (celebrities) on screen, they're tiny, right? When you see them in real life, it's actually scary how small they are... And there is a lot of pressure on young girls, and it really is a shame."
The 54-year-old also criticised the dieting industry - which makes hundreds of thousands every year on fad diets - saying that the "only way" to loose weight "is to get up off your bottom and don't eat as much.
"End of. That's it," she concluded.
Meanwhile, Kelly is celebrating her 30th year on television this year and speaking to The Daily Express, she revealed she couldn't believe it.
“I can’t believe it’s been 30 years, it has gone by in the blink of an eye,” she said.
“I honestly think I have the best job in the world. Live TV is so exciting; you never really know what’s going to happen next and I love that unpredictability.”
Lorraine started her career at BBC Scotland before becoming a roving reporter for TV-am’s Good Morning Britain in 1984.
