How Princess Charlotte perfected her royal wave – and she looks up to the Queen
SHE may only be three-years-old, but Princess Charlotte has learned from the best when it comes to the art of the royal wave, with the fifth-in-line to the throne following in the footsteps of the Queen.
Royal Wedding: Princess Charlotte waves to the newlyweds
Charlotte was noted to be studying her 92-year-old great-great grandmother minutely, before imitating her flawlessly.
The tot has had plenty of practice when it comes to perfecting her regal greeting, having observed the Queen, as well as her mother the Duchess of Cambridge, at various events over the last couple of years.
Two years ago, aged one, Charlotte travelled with her mum, her dad Prince William, and her older brother Prince George, to Canada for a royal visit.
The Duchess was spotted teaching Charlotte how to wave as they got off their plane in Victoria, the capital of British Columbia.
Clearly a fast learner, the youngster got the hang of it rapidly.
By the end of the official tour, she was waving to well wishers enthusiastically.
Royal visits to Poland and Germany also offered her further opportunities to work on her technique.
Nor is her performance at this year’s Trooping the Colour a first.
Also when she was one year old, she waved enthusiastically as she made her debut at the event while looking up the RAF flypast.
The next year, she joined with great-grandparents the Queen and Prince Philip in waving to the crowds like a pro.
And earlier this year, she once again underlined how comfortable she is in the limelight during a visit to the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington to meet her new baby Prince Louis.
In contrast to the rather more reserved Prince George, Charlotte was happy to turn around and give a big wave to the crowds, much to the delight of the massed ranks of photographers gathered outside.
And in May, Charlotte stole the show yet again as her uncle, Prince Harry, married Meghan Markle at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.
Charlotte, who was one of the bridesmaids at the lavish day-long celebation, proved a huge hit after emerging on the church steps with her mum.
Looking resplendent in her outfit, she waved off the newlyweds as they prepared take part in a carriage procession around Windsor.
