'Believe in yourself' Prince William and Harry offer inspiring words to young people
YOUNG people have been given words of encouragement by Prince William and Harry tonight who have told them to "believe" in themselves.
Prince William and Harry's Royal hangout
The Duke of Cambridge and his brother took part in their first Google Hangout where they talked to youngsters from Australia, India and South Africa.
They encouraged young leaders across the Commonwealth to never "give up" as they launched the Queen's Young Leaders Programme at Buckingham Palace.
They also posed for a Twitter selfie with entrepreneur Jamal Edwards in which they huddled together and pointed directly at the camera.
The picture shared across the globe on the social networking site was meant to symbolise the trio singling out the next generation of role models.
All I would say is believe in yourself - you've got a lot more to say then you think
During the web chat, Prince William said: "All I would say is believe in yourself - you've got a lot more to say then you think.
"There are plenty people out there who have an open mind and will listen and care.
"They will listen to you and they want to help and those are the kind of guys and girls you need to target - so always believe in yourselves, don't give up."
The selfie was taken in Buckingham Palace's ornate 1855 Room on a Twitter mirror.
The gadget is hung on a wall and lets people take pictures of themselves and then share it on the social networking site.
The two brothers went up to the mirror with Mr Edwards and peered at themselves.
The trio rejected the first snap then two more before Harry joked "We should go close up" as his face loomed large in the mirror.
He then pointed at it and the others followed his lead.
When the image was sent Harry quipped that the picture was already "trending".
He then said to Kira O'Connor, from Twitter, who had guided the royals through the process: "This is quite cool, do you have this in your house?"
Also at the event were young leaders and famous faces like comic Jennifer Saunders and singer Joss Stone.
The Queen's Young Leaders Programme will over the next four years recognise 60 outstanding individuals annually.
Award winners will receive a tailored package of training, mentoring and networking.
They will also be provided with a one-week residential programme in the UK during which they will receive their award.
The project aims to further strengthen the skills and confidence of the young leaders so they can inspire the next generation.
