The Queen manages to raise a smile as she attends funeral of Lady Margaret Thatcher
HER Majesty the Queen remembered Baroness Margaret Thatcher with a smile as she attended her funeral in London today.
The 86-year-old Royal was accompanied by Prince Philip as she attended the ceremony to say goodbye to the former British Prime Minister.
As they arrived at St Paul's Cathedral to the sound of the National Anthem, the couple looked sombre while preparing themselves for the ceremony.
Following the service, her Majesty the Queen emerged carrying her black patent handbag and made sure she greeted Lady Thatcher's family as well as the Lord Major of London Roger Gifford.
Baroness Thatcher's children, Sir Mark and Carol, who arrived at St Paul's just after 10.30am, said their mother would have been "humbled" to know the Queen will attend her funeral.
"I know my mother would be greatly honoured as well as humbled by her presence," Sir Mark said.
His two children Michael and Amanda, who had flown in from Texas to be at their grandmother's funeral, alos looked chuffed to have been in the presence of the Queen and her husband, and stood on the steps speaking with them.
The Queen ensured she stayed warm for the service today by wearing a long black coat with a matching hat and patent shoes.
She completed her look with a strand of pearls, glittering brooch and her favourite black handbag.
