Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway is set to return from Australia to be by her mother's side amid her latest health concerns. The 22-year-old has been studying international relations and political economy at the University of Sydney since last year.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit is known to have an incurable lung disease, and her condition has deteriorated over recent months. Speaking of his daughter today, Crown Prince Haakon said: "She wants to come home soon, and it's to do with our family situation,".

He told Norwegian journalists on the sidelines of a three-day official visit to Japan: "She would like to be with her mother."

He also added that his daughter does hope to return to Australia to complete her degree, adding: "But how long she will stay at home, we will have to see."

The 52-year-old is also known to have shortened his trip to Japan by a day due to his wife's condition back in Norway.

He added: "I feel far from home. It is important to come home and be with Mette. She is faring poorly now, which is why I wanted to do this."

Speaking of his wife last week, the Crown Prince said her condition has deteriorated.

He added: "The Crown Princess is gravely ill, and I find that her condition has deteriorated significantly recently.

"So, I'm worried about her health. She uses oxygen daily, and that helps a bit, but it's obviously not an entirely satisfactory solution."

Following her diagnosis in 2018, the condition has repeatedly forced her to take sick leave or scale back her official duties. The royal appeared in public wearing a device to help her breathe last month.
