Meghan Markle was never going to fit in the Royal Family - and the late Queen knew it

The late monarch took no nonsense when it came to the Firm's possessions and traditions.

You only have to look at Meghan’s shamefully disrespectful Netflix reenactment of her being taught how to curtsey in front of the late Queen Elizabeth II to know that her being a member of the Royal Family was never going to work out. To her, a show of respect to a monarch who had no option but to give up her life to the country’s service was just extremely funny. “I just thought it was a joke,” she said.

Simply put: how dare she? Harry did not come off much better, saying: “How do you explain that you bow to your grandmother, and you will need to curtsey?” It’s really quite easy, and Meghan should have known beforehand. The prince added: “That’s weird.”

No, it’s not. Granted, it’s not something many people do on a daily basis, but it’s usual, and has been for hundreds of years. It’s really not that hard, nor unfathomable. What’s “weird” is pretending it is.

When his wife recreated what she supposedly did in front of Her Majesty, which I’d bet was over-exaggerated compared to what she actually did, Harry looked a bit uncomfortable.

The camera zoomed in on his expression.

Royal expert Robert Hardman has detailed yet another example of the couple’s ungratefulness and lack of comprehension in his latest book, Elizabeth II, marking the centenary of the birth of Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.

He writes that there was a row between the couple and the Queen’s dresser, Angela Kelly, over Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara.

Meghan - who clearly thought of herself as a goddess deserving of only the best that mere mortals could muster up - apparently wanted to try it on, but this proved tricky to arrange.

Kelly has been accused of being aloof, with the late Queen said not to have been pleased that Harry had been demanding that the jewellery be sent forthwith.

The sovereign allegedly told one of them: “It’s not a toy.”

This is something that happens in homes across the country - not just in palaces.

It clearly shows that the couple, now nothing more than moaning minor celebrities in California, never intended to respect the institution that gave Harry notoriety and Meghan global fame.

Harry has no doubt endured awful times after the death of his mother, but, together with Meghan, behaving so petulantly and looking to pursue a toxic vendetta against his own family is hardly the way to make things better.

Apart from anything else, it’s extremely sad and makes the monarchy, which enriches Britain’s national life and dealings, weaker.

The King faces the horrible prospect of not having fully reconciled with his second son before his life ends.

Realise you’ve acted in an unjustified manner, find some respect for the Firm and its traditions and make things right.
