Sarah Ferguson was brutally savaged for showing “shamelessly venal behaviour,” as a royal commentator said her fleeing the UK to find refuge in Portugal is the only “sensible” thing left to do. The former Duchess of York lost her title and home in recent weeks as she got further dragged into the Jeffrey Epstein row alongside her ex-husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

Fergie, as she is otherwise known, sparked huge backlash after it was revealed that she kept in contact with the convicted paedophile after publicly disowning him, calling him her "supreme friend" in emails that emerged. Since then, multiple charities severed ties with her, after she was seen "humbly" apologising to the financier for comments she made to the media in 2011. Her spokesperson has since claimed that the apology from Sarah came as she feared he was set to sue her for defamation.

The furore against the Yorks peaked last month, when the King took the dramatic decision to strip his own brother of all his titles and honours and forced him to move out of Royal Lodge, alongside Fergie.

However, while Andrew will be whisked away to one of the King’s houses in Sandringham, Fergie’s future and possible next home were in doubt.

Until this week, when the Daily Express revealed that the former duchess wants to “flee the UK” and will allegedly move into a £3.6million luxury oceanfront villa in Portugal owned by Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank.

Now, a royal commentator has criticised the former duchess and said the Palace was right to “banish” someone who is “so notorious for her shamelessly venal behaviour”.

He told the Express: “The Palace have rightly made clear that someone so notorious for her shamelessly venal behaviour is now banished.

“The charities she was attached to have rejected her. She would undoubtedly be a useful witness for the FBI, relating what she knew of Epstein’s accomplices.

“Andrew is involved in further scandal as more compromising emails emerge, moving abroad is only sensible for her. There are many who hope she will not move back!”
