'I worked for King Charles for 21 years - I was surprised by one thing'
The King's former gardener Jack Stooks has reflected on his time working at Highgrove House and Gardens.

The King's former gardener, Jack Stooks, has revealed one thing that surprised him after working for the monarch for 21 years. Although he departed from his role last year, Jack's responsibilities included shaping the landscape garden on the royal estate.
Speaking about the King Charles, who is known for his love of nature and wildlife, Jack shared that he was surprised by the "normality" and the 76-year-old's hands-on approach to the garden. Discussing his former role with OK!, he admitted that he did find being told what to do by the King "odd" at first.
He told the publication: "He was very much on the ball all the time. If he came home at the weekend, he would be out in the garden checking what's been done, what hasn't been done."

Reflecting on his time alongside the King, Jack then shared a comment from Charles that came every single Monday morning.
He added: "He would be like, 'This needs doing, that needs doing'. So, it was really good to know that you're working for somebody that actually took everything in.
"He was interested in the garden he knew what was going on. So, we all had the sense of satisfaction that we would get something right and know that it was actually being enjoyed and admired by the person who owns it."
As well as the King, Jack also crossed paths with the likes of Queen Camilla, Prince William and Prince Harry - with the latter's wife previously sharing her own contradictory thoughts to Jack about the Firm.

In the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's Netflix documentary, which aired in 2022, Meghan Markle shared that she was surprised by the "formality" of the royals.
Reflecting on her first encounter with Princess Kate and Prince William, Meghan said: "I guess I started to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside.
"[I thought there would be] a forward-facing way of being, and then you close the door and go, ‘You can relax now', but that formality carries over on both sides. And that was surprising to me."
