Princess Eugenie's birthday is set to be a low-key affair, according to former Royal butler Paul Burrell, who served Princess Diana and was a footman for Queen Elizabeth II.

Eugenie, the younger daughter of Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, is expected to mark the day quietly with her family, including husband Jack Brooksbank and their two young sons, four-year-old August and one-year-old Ernest.

Speaking on behalf of Slingo, Burrell remarked: "I think she'll have a very quiet celebration, I don't think it's going to be much of a loud bash."

He additionally claimed that there isn't a strong desire for a grand event: "There isn't much flavour for her to have a big celebration, not much appetite.

"I think it'll be a very quiet one behind closed doors, I don't think it will be much of an event. I think it's going to pass quietly." Burrell also addressed speculation about Eugenie's future role within the Royal Family, particularly when her cousin Prince William ascends the throne.

He exclusively told Reach PLC: "As for her taking on a more senior role when Prince William becomes King, I think that's a non-starter."

Paul further explained that both King Charles and Prince William favour a streamlined monarchy: "William wants a slimmed down monarchy, much the same as his father, they're singing from the same hymn sheet."

He emphasised William's vision for the future: "By the time William becomes King, he has said himself he wants the monarchy to be small, smaller than his father's court. He wants royalty to be spelled with a small 'r'.

"I don't think there is a real opportunity for Eugenie to break into a senior royal role."

Paul's remarks follow Richard Fitzwilliams' assertion on GB News that Princesses Eugenie and her elder sister Beatrice, 36, are unlikely to become senior working members of the Royal Family due to the "toxic" York brand.

Beatrice and Eugenie maintain a close relationship with their father Prince Andrew, who was compelled to retire from Royal duties in 2019 following a disastrous Newsnight interview discussing his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Adding to the controversy, the Duke of York was mentioned in court documents in December alleging close connections with a Chinese businessman banned from the UK on accusations of espionage.

Andrew, however, insists he has "ceased all contact" with the individual.
