Since quitting life as working members of the Royal Family in 2020, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have not hesitated to share plenty of information about what life was like for the couple in the UK.

While Meghan, 43, said in the Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan that she felt she wasn’t “enough” for the Royal Family, she also opened up on a close private moment she shared with Harry’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.

Throughout the series, the couple spoke fondly of the late Queen, who was still alive at the time of filming in 2022.

The series was released just months after her death.

In one of the episodes, Meghan opened up about a “great time” she had with the late Queen as they carried out royal engagements together in Cheshire in June 2018.

Meghan told the cameras: “Very early one after we got married, we took the royal train together, we had breakfast that morning and I had a really great time with her.

“I treated her as my husband's grandma, and knowing there had to be a totally different sense of propriety when you're out in public. When you're sitting and having breakfast, to just be able to talk.

“I mean, when we got into the car in between engagements, she had a blanket and she put it over my knees and we were just sitting in the car with this blanket. And I thought ‘I recognise and respect and see that you are The Queen, but in this moment, I'm so grateful that there's a grandmother figure’.

“Because that feels like family. And because I was so, so close with my grandmother and I took care of her in her final years, it was really. It was such a good day.”

The day of those engagements was captured by the press at the time, with pictures showing both the late Queen and Meghan laughing away together on the joint engagement, which was just a month after Meghan’s wedding to Harry in Windsor.

The late Queen and Prince Philip both attended the wedding which took place in St George’s Chapel on the Windsor Castle estate.

The couple then welcomed their first son Archie a year later and quit life as members of the Royal Family in early 2020 to relocate abroad.

At the time, the late Queen issued a statement confirming their departure and insisting that the couple would always be part of her family behind closed doors.

It is believed that the couple were in frequent contact with the late Queen up until her death on September 8 2022.
