Prince Harry's next betrayal of the Royal Family has been decided with the release date of the paperback version of his controversial memoir announced by the publisher.

Penguin Random House announced on Monday (August 26) that the paperback edition of the international bestseller Spare will hit the shelves on October 24 in the UK and on October 22 in the United States.

The edition will be released in the UK by Transworld under the Penguin imprint and in North America by Random House US and Random House Canada.

In all, this edition of the book will be issued in 16 languages around the world and feature the same cover photo as the hardback edition. Its contents remain unchanged, according to the publisher.

The book sent shockwaves around the world when it was first published on January 10 last year, with a barrage of bombshell claims and allegations aimed by Prince Harry at members of his own family.

Ahead of its publication, a stream of sensational claims were leaked, including that Harry and Prince William had urged their father, King Charles, not to marry Camilla, who is now the Queen.

Another explosive claim saw William accused of knocking Harry to the floor at the Duke of Sussex's home in London after the Prince of Wales allegedly criticised Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex.

Harry also shares intimate details of his private life, including how he lost his virginity to an older woman behind a pub after downing shots at the age of 17. The woman is said by Harry to have treated him like "a young stallion".

He also wrote about using cocaine as a teenager and smoking cannabis at the top private school Eton. The prince also boasted of killing 25 Taliban fighters while serving as a helicopter pilot in Afghanistan, a revelation which sparked criticism from some military figures.

Prince William and Princess Kate are also accused in Spare of encouraging Harry to wear a Nazi uniform to a fancy dress party in 2005 when he was 20.

The book was hailed by the publisher as being the first time Harry had told his life story in such "raw" detail and described it as having been penned with "unflinching honesty".

Ghost-written by celebrated writer, JR Moehringer, the work is the fastest-selling non-fiction book in the world, with 1,430,000 copies sold in the UK, US and Canada on January 10, 2023, alone.

The record had previously been held by Barack Obama’s fourth book, A Promised Land, which sold 887,000 copies on its release day.

Despite dominating the headlines when it was first released, Spare was beaten in every category after it was nominated at the British Book Awards in May.

Sales in the UK of more than 700,000 led to book trade magazine The Bookseller to name Spare the best-selling work of 2023.
