Princess Kate's 'uncomfortable' Christmas Day blunder which led to major regret
The Princess of Wales admitted the regret to a royal fan during a walkabout on the Sandringham estate.
Princess Kate made a fashion blunder which led to regret during one of the Royal Family's traditional Christmas Day public appearances.
In 2019, the Princess of Wales, then Duchess of Cambridge, accompanied Prince William, Prince George and Princess Charlotte for the Christmas Day service at Sandringham, Norfolk.
Local royal watchers flock to the estate in King's Lynn to get a glimpse of the Windsors as they walk towards St Mary Magdalene church.
Kate colour coordinated the Wales's outfits for the occasion four years ago with Prince George and Prince William's blue suits. Princess Charlotte also donned a dark green dress coat.
The colour matched Kate's hat, bag and heels, but it was the heavy, grey Catherine Walker coat that saw the future queen express regret.
During a chat with royal fan Rachel Anvil while on a walkabout, Kate admitted the coat had been the wrong choice for the unseasonably mild weather.
Rachel's mum told the Metro: "Kate was talking to my daughter about clothes and how she was feeling too hot. She said, 'I really shouldn’t have worn this'.
"I’m there talking to Charlotte about dolls and my daughter’s talking about fashion with Kate. It wasn’t fake - it was a genuine discussion. It was about a minute but it was tailored to my daughter. It was like speaking to a friend."
There were no reports of regret at last year's Christmas Day outing, with Kate opting for an olive green, Alexander McQueen flare coat matched with suede boots.
Kate re-wore the miliary-style coat, which retails at more than £1,000, after having donned it on a visit to Bradford in 2020.

The princess wore a red coat dress with matching Gianvito Rossi heels, topped off with a burgundy headband and felt bow on December 25, 2018.
By tradition, the Royal Family spends Christmas and New Year at Sandringham House, the King's country estate in Norfolk.
In the 1960s, when Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's children were small, many Christmases were celebrated at Windsor Castle, where the Windsors now spend Easter.
Since 1988, when the castle in Berkshire was being rewired, Royal Christmases have been held at Sandringham.
