Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Sussex Royal trademark ‘snapped up by lawyer’
AN AMERICAN lawyer claims to have filed an application to trademark the “Sussex Royal” brand in the US to teach rebels Prince Harry and Meghan Markle a lesson about proper business planning.
Meghan Markle and Harry want to ‘establish’ brand says expert
Jared Fogelson, from Los Angeles, said he made a move to grab the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s brand title on digital platforms after noticing it was available. The intellectual property lawyer has claimed ownership of the brand for “communications by computer terminals, transmission and delivery of video, and data via the internet and wireless networks,” according to a document. But Mr Fogelson told TMZ he does not intend on keeping the brand and will hand it to Harry and Meghan if they request it.
His aim, he said, was to show the Sussexes the importance of planning ahead for the launch of a platform and paying attention to details.
But reports suggest Mr Fogelson’s plan may not play out according to his expectations.
This is because the Queen’s grandson and his American wife appear to have beaten the US lawyer in the trademark race.
Harry, 35, and Meghan, 38, filed an application to trademark “Sussex Royal” with the World Intellectual Property Organisation on December 31, which is still pending.
The couple’s application was submitted a week before Mr Fogelson filed his document in the US on January 8, 2020.
Last summer the couple applied for Sussex Royal trademarks in the UK.
This was due to international rules which state that applicants must have a “home office” before applying elsewhere.

A document filed on June 21 shows the brand name could potentially extend from social care and charity to public awareness campaigns and education services.
The application also takes into account a vast range of products including books, magazines and pens as well as clothing.
Headbands, trousers, sweatshirts, anoraks, socks and pyjamas were included.
