Prince Harry vs William: How royal baby reveals differed as Harry honours Princess Diana
ARCHIE HARRISON’s birth announcement by Buckingham Palace warmed the hearts of the nation, but how did it differ from all of his cousins?
Meghan Markle baby: Expert discusses 'Prince' Archie title
Prince Harry and Prince William have always had a close relationship, until around 18 months ago when relationships became fraught after big brother William expressed concern about Meghan Markle. Luckily, with Prince William and Kate Middleton visiting their nephew Baby Archie yesterday, tensions seemed to have thawed. But are the two brothers choosing to be more independent as Prince Harry chose to announce his royal baby differently to his brother?
In the early hours of Monday, May 6, a baby boy was born to delighted new parents Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
A few hours later Buckingham Palace announced the birth of the 7lb 3oz baby boy to the world.
Traditionally when a royal baby is born, a birth announcement appears in Buckingham Palace for a period of 24 hours to commemorate the joyous occasion.
The birth announcement for the newest royal family addition read: “The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news.
“The Duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland, who is overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, is with Their Royal Highnesses at Frogmore Cottage.
“Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”
While the world is very familiar with The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland, some of the other names on the list proved to be a little baffling.
Who were these surprising individuals in amongst the group of “delighted” family members from Britain’s most famous family?
According to The Telegraph, Lady Jane Fellowes was one of the first to meet baby Archie.
Lady Jane, 62, is one of the two older sisters of the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
She is the second child of Edward John Spencer, 8th Earl Spencer and the Hon Frances Shand Kidd, both of whom have now passed away.
The late Princess Diana’s other sister Lady Sarah McCorquodale, 64, was also included on the list.
By including them in the birth announcement alongside the royal arm of his family, Prince Harry has shown the depth of his dedication to his mother’s side of the family.
In fact, Prince Harry’s aunt Lady Jane met with his son before even Prince Charles and Camilla and Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who are reportedly due to visit the couple and their newborn son this week.
The poignancy of meeting Princess Diana’s sisters has previously been highlighted by the Duchess of Sussex.
After the couple announced their engagement, Meghan spoke of how important she found meeting his aunts.
She said: “I think in being able to meet his aunts, I’m able to, in some way, know a part of her through them and of course through him. And it’s incredibly special.”
The couple’s choice to honour family members in the birth announcement is another example of how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have done things different to their in-laws.
Royal fans were treated to a somewhat different and more traditional bulletin announcements for the birth of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
For the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s three children, the royal announcements were must shorter and to the point.
Prince George’s birth announcement outside Buckingham Palace read: “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4.24pm today.
“Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”

The announcement is then followed by signatures for doctors present at the birth, including Dr Guy Thorpe-Beeston, who appears on all three announcement, and the date the birth announcement was signed.
While Prince Louis’s arrival announcement revealed Prince William and Kate informed The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry, along with “members of both families”.
By comparison, Meghan and Harry’s more emotional announcement made no reference to the staff or doctors present for Baby Archie’s arrival.
While the inclusion of Lady Jane was yet another touching tribute to Harry’s late mother.
The Sussex’s also shared a sweet snap showing Archie’s feet on Sunday to mark Mother’s Day in the USA, with Diana’s favourite flowers - forget-me-nots - seen in the background.
In the post, Meghan and Harry paid tribute to mothers “past, present and mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered.”
Forget-me-nots also featured in Meghan’s bouquet on the couple’s wedding day, as a tribute to Harry’s late mother, who loved the small purple flowers.
Prince Harry has in the past spoken publicly about the emotional turmoil he suffered after bottling up his emotions about the loss of his mother.
He has confessed to being ‘very close’ to a mental breakdown on a number of occasions before he sought counselling on the advice of his elder brother Prince William.
