The Conservative backbencher, a leading Leave supporter, was hailed by Brexit Secretary David Davis after he hit out at those demanding greater “scrutiny” of the Government’s EU exit strategy.
Mr Rees-Mogg, MP for North East Somerset, had asked Mr Davis: “Do you notice that those who now wail parliamentary sovereignty mean the yoke of Brussels, when they say scrutiny they mean delay, and when they say respect they mean condescension?
"Do you agree with me that the British people have voted and we must legislate?"

As ever, my honourable friend speaks for England
In reply, the Brexit Secretary told MPs: "As ever, my honourable friend speaks for England."
Mr Davis had been answering questions in the House of Commons after he set out the Government’s plan to table legislation to authorise Article 50 and begin EU divorce talks.
This morning, the Supreme Court ruled the Government must first seek the consent of Parliament before triggering Article 50.
Mr Davis told MPs they will be asked to vote on legislation to kickstart the Brexit process “within days”.
But Labour, the SNP and Liberal Democrats have warned they will attempt to add amendments to the Government’s proposed bill in order to place conditions on the triggering of Article 50.
A number of pro-Remain Tory MPs also demanded the Government set out its Brexit aims in a formal White Paper before Brexit negotiations begin.
