Nigel Farage has warned Labour his constituents are living proof they will be punished at the ballot box after cutting winter fuel payments.

MPs who recently voted to restrict the payments to the poorest pensioners this year can expect rival candidates to remind voters what they did in future.

Reform UK leader Mr. Farage, MP for Clacton in Essex, predicted long-term consequences for Labour.

He said: "my 99-year-old constituent Jim o'Dwyer made national news last week - a Lancaster bomber rear-gunner who did over 30 missions - for losing his winter fuel allowance.

"He is far from alone, as across the whole of clacton and the surrounding villages there are as many as 25,000 people affected.

"the sense of injustice felt by many will last for a long time to come."

clacton is said to have the greatest share of residents aged 66 and over in england and Wales - and Reform has made no secret of its ambition to make major inroads into local government, ahead of council elections in may.

Former work and pensions secretary mel Stride said: "millions of pensioners have been betrayed by Labour and will not forgive, nor forget it."

Polling by Ipsos found 46 per cent now have an unfavourable view of Prime minister Sir Keir Starmer, with 32 per cent now having a favourable one.
