The threat of World War Three looms closer than ever as Russia is feared to have traded nuclear bomb secrets in exchange for ballistic missiles from Iran.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer and US President Joe Biden discussed the chilling prospect on Friday in Washington.

The development comes after UK and US declassified shocking intelligence showing that Vladimir Putin had received a shipment of Fath-360 ballistic missiles from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Khamenei has long desired nuclear weapons in Iran, and the West fears that negotiations with Russia indicate a strengthened alliance between the two nations.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said: "For its part, Russia is sharing technology that Iran seeks – this is a two-way street – including on nuclear issues as well as some space information."

In response to the move, the UK banned Iran Air from flying over or landing in Britain.

In Wahsington, Starmer and Biden discussed what permissions should be granted to Ukraine - including whether to use UK-made Storm Shadow missiles to attack targets within Russia.

However, the West fears further escalation and has hesitated on granting permission for long-range weapons.

Putin has warned that the West letting Kyiv use longer-range weapons to target Russian targets would mean that NATO is “at war” with Russia.

He stated: "If this decision is made, it will mean nothing other than the direct participation of NATO countries - the United States, European countries - in the war in Ukraine.

"This is their direct participation and this already, of course, significantly changes the very essence, the very nature of the conflict.

Britain, France, and Germany have warned that Tehran has boosted its stockpile of uranium, but it is unclear how close they are to having a functional nuclear arsenal.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Iran and Russia have deepened their friendship. Iran delivered Shahed drones to Moscow, which have been used to bomb Ukrainian cities.
