Labour's Dawn Butler has been ridiculed online after releasing an election campaign rap video, with some critics branding it an "abomination".

In a video uploaded to X on Thursday the candidate for Brent East performed a reimagining of So Solid Crew's 2001 hit 21 Seconds, reminding voters they have 21 days before the national vote on July 4.

The garage and hip hop collectives' original lyrics have been turned into an anti-Tory diss track as Butler takes aim at Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's controversial absence from D-Day celebrations in Normandy.

"Rishi at D-Day - where did he go?", she jibed, "Say Rishi at D-Day - where did he go? Like don't let a liar run the show."

Elsewhere in the track, Butler rapped that the "Labour party are here to stay, we're going to the very top, the Tories, their time is up," adding, "Cause Tories - they're too corrupt."

She also called on residents to vote for her, joking: "If you like me, let me know, let me out the shadow..."
One X user shared the video, writing: "Sorry but what on earth is this abomination? This is the standard of MPs who will be in power if Labour wins. Absolute cringe.
Another, commenting under Butler's video said: "This is beyond embarrassing, the UK's political class is a joke."
A third wrote: "Desperate stuff. Good help us. If ever there was a video to say 'I am unserious politician, don't vote for me,' this is it."
Dawn Butler's office has been approached for comment via email.

Others saw the funny side, with one user writing: "Oh this is fabulous and so much fun..."

Another said: "We have Ed Davey doing a grand tour, now Dawn Butler is rapping. Say what you like about this election but it's FAR from boring," along with crying laughing emojis.

A further fan of the clip said it was "much better than it has any right to be".
Labour, the Lib Dems and the Conservatives have now all released their manifestos as the nationwide ballot nears, and campaigning ramps up/
Reform UK, which was found to be just one point behind the Tories, according to a recent YouGov poll, are set to release their formal manifesto on June 17.

Full lyrics to Dawn Butler's campaign video

We've got 21 days to go, we've got 21 days to go
If you like me, let me know, let me out the shadow
We've got 21 days before they got to go
Rishi at D-Day - where did he go?
Say Rishi at D-Day - where did he go?
Like don't let a liar run the show
Like don't let a liar run the show
If you like me, let me know, let me out the shadow
We've got 21 days before they got to go
21 days t-to go
21 days t-to go
21 days t-to go
21 days to say who you like
21 days to have your say
Tories won't like me anyway
But I won't hesitate
Cause Labour party are here to stay
We're going to the very top
The Tories, their time is up
'Cause Tories - they're too corrupt
We've got 21 days to go, we've got 21 days to go
If you like me, let me know, let me out the shadow
