Lenovo’s folding Windows 10 PC has an eye-watering price tag and launches this year
LENOVO has confirmed its foldable Windows 10 PC will launch later this year, however, this pliable PC won’t come cheap – so you better start saving if you’re eager to pick one up on release day.
Lenovo: Hands on with the new foldable Windows 10 PC
Lenovo unveiled its shiny new foldable ThinkPad back in May last year and has finally given it a name, price, and release date… sort of. The pliable PC, which is dubbed ThinkPad X1 Fold, will cost a whopping $2,499, the company confirmed at CES 2020 this week. That said, the firm has been hesitant to nail down a precise release date for its ThinkPad X1 Fold. All we know is the device will release sometime this year, with many expecting it to arrive in the second half of 2020.
At first, the ThinkPad X1 Fold will go on-sale running the regular old version of Windows 10. However, later down the line, Lenovo says it’ll release the device with Windows 10X pre-installed – Microsoft’s custom Windows 10 operating system designed for foldable and dual-screen devices that was unveiled back in October.
The ThinkPad X1 Fold represents a sizeable shakeup to Lenovo’s ThinkPad series as it tries to build the ultimate all-in-one device.
As you’d expect, the ThinkPad X1’s 13.3-inch pOLED display can be folded into a clamshell for portability. Better still, the device can be folded in half to give it a more traditional laptop form factor. In this state, Windows fans can choose to either use the device’s on-screen keyboard or attach a physical one on top if they prefer.
The X1 Fold’s tricks don’t stop there. When you eventually rock up to the office you can use the device’s built-in kickstand to set the display upright, then all you need to do is pair a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and you’ve got yourself a truly futuristic workhorse.
Express.co.uk went hands-on with the Lenovo’s foldable ThinkPad back in November. We were thoroughly impressed by the hardware and left incredibly excited about its potential.

As you’d expect, Lenovo spent a significant amount of time toying with the hinge design of the X1 Fold. In fact, the firm claims it went through six different hinge designs and over 20 versions of the product before it came up with its final form factor.
During Express.co.uk’s testing, the ThinkPad felt sturdy when folding it. But of course, we’ll have to wait until it releases before we can really test its durability.
Lenovo has chosen Intel to provide the internals for the X1 Fold. It’s currently unclear which chipset will keep the device ticking along, but it’s been confirmed to come with Intel’s newly announced Hybrid Technology that’s designed to cater to the requirements of foldable and dual-screen devices.
All in all, Lenovo claims the X1 Fold will weigh just 1kg, that’s lighter than Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 3 (1.27kg) and Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Pro (1.37kg).
