Karcher Window Vac 'works really well to get rid of condensation' – now nearly 20% cheaper
Spring might technically be on the horizon, but condensation still seems determined to cling to the windows in my house, thanks in no small part to the ever-unpredictable weather. If you’re anything like me and waking up most mornings to streams of condensation sliding down the glass, it can start to feel like a daily ritual of wiping them down again and again. Leaving that moisture sitting there isn’t ideal either — it can collect into little pools that encourage mould spores to settle in, and frankly, mouldy window frames are something nobody wants to deal with.
A Karcher Window Vac has been on my wish list for a few years now (although I’ll admit I still haven’t actually bought one). My interest started when my mum picked one up and hasn’t stopped talking about how brilliant it is for clearing water off her shower doors. And while the Karcher Window Vac is often praised for whisking away water from shower screens and tiles, and for clearing fog from steamed-up mirrors, at this time of year, shoppers say it really comes into its own for condensation. Some have even called it a “Godsend for removing condensation” from windows.
In one review, another shopper said: “Perfect for clearing condensation from windows and any window cleaning task.”
At the moment, the Karcher Window Vac V2 is included in Amazon's spring sale (which the retailer refers to as its Spring Deals Days). The device is currently reduced to £44.99 from £54.99, meaning you can save £10 right now. That's an 18% saving. However, as is the case with Amazon's seasonal sales, the price could change at any time, and the discount could vanish.
Now, it’s worth mentioning that this isn’t the newest Window Vac in Karcher’s lineup — that title goes to the Window Vac 6 Plus, which currently sells for £69.99 on the Karcher website (down from £109.99). As you’d expect, the newer model comes with a few upgrades, including improved run-time, additional attachments and enhanced settings. But if you’re simply looking for something straightforward that gets the job done without too many extra features, the V2 still looks like a reliable option.
It currently holds a 4.3-star customer satisfaction rating on the Karcher website and a 4.4-star rating on Amazon.
The device works similarly to a cordless handheld vacuum, only instead of crumbs or dust, it’s designed to suck up water. That could be from glass surfaces, tiles or even spills on tables. It also features an angled suction head designed for flat surfaces, which helps lift moisture without leaving streaks.
Shoppers say it’s easy to handle, too. One Amazon reviewer wrote: “This unit is lightweight, so easy to manage and carry around the house, it works well and easily removes condensation if you have large areas of glass.”
It’s operated with a simple press of a button, which activates the suction and, according to Karcher, leaves surfaces completely dry with no marks behind. So while it’s handy for tackling condensation, it can also be used for plenty of other cleaning jobs around the home. “Great value for money, with excellent build quality and easy to use,” said one customer in a review. “I dry my condensed windows and walk-in shower glass wall panel and tiles every day with it and only charge it every Saturday morning.”
The water is collected in a small tank that can be removed once full and tipped away into the sink, which is a far better alternative than endlessly wiping windows and glass with damp cloths. And unlike a traditional squeegee, you won’t end up with puddles of water sitting on the windowsill or floor.
Some shoppers say it’s useful outside the house too. One reviewer wrote: “Quality is great, easy to use, works really well and getting rid of condensation, use mine for my car and cleaning it.”
That said, the battery life is shorter than on some newer models, lasting about 35 minutes. Of course, the easiest workaround is simply to recharge it after each use. A few shoppers have also pointed out that it can take a little practice to achieve the streak-free finish Karcher promises. As one review explained: “Good for vacuuming wet surfaces, but can still see streaks on windows when the sun shines through. I will have to perfect my technique!”
More condensation-busting appliances
A heated airer is a great alternative to using a tumble dryer in the winter months, and according to Lakeland, this one can also help curb excess damp (which may lead to condensation).
