Turning on the "big light" is a big no-no when cosying up for a relaxing evening, and the right lamp can transform a room's ambience, especially as the cold weather keeps us indoors. Dunelm is hosting a massive sale at the moment, with savings of up to 75% on a selection of lamps.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the homeware retailer has put a huge range of its products on clearance, and this is a great moment to shop for everything from bedding and soft furnishings to bigger pieces of furniture.

If you're after a lamp, we have picked our five favourites from the sale, and all are discounted by 50% and over.

Phoebe Abstract Glass Table Lamp

The Phoebe Abstract Glass Table Lamp has been slashed by 50%, from £35 to £17.50, and it's a great statement piece for your living room or bedroom.

It's a trendier take on the classic table lamp, keeping the tapered fabric shade but replacing the plain base with a clear, green-tinted glass base. The abstract shape of the base adds a funky flair to any room, but its transparency makes it neutral enough to blend in.

Its dimensions (H 39.7cm x W 29cm x D 29cm) mean it's not too big, making it ideal for placement on side tables and bookshelves. It also has a 1.5m cable.

Many Dunelm shoppers are saying the lamp looks expensive, with one saying: "Lovely lamp! Looks much more expensive than it is!"

Indeed, it's a bargain compared to similar glass lamps on the market, like this one from Lighting Direct, which retails for £98.99 or Loaf's Flagon Lamp, whose prices start from £75.

Bod Magnetic Rechargeable Touch Dimmable Table Lamp

If you want more flexibility with where you can put your lamp, a rechargeable one might be a good idea. The Bod Magnetic Table Lamp promises a five-hour battery life, and comes with a USB-C type cable for charging. It also has 50% off, and is now £12.50, down from £25.

The lamp measures H 20.5cm x W 10cm x D 10cm and has a minimalistic design, with three dimmer settings, which are great for adjusting how bright you want it. Its secret weapon, however, is its magnetic base, which can be used to pin up notes, to-do lists, or shopping lists. This makes it perfect for those dark corners of the kitchen with no plug sockets, a bedside table, or even a desk.

It's touch-operated, which some shoppers are finding convenient. One said: "I have been looking everywhere for one of these and found it in Dunelm. This is perfect if, like me, you have to get up at night to go to the bathroom and are afraid of disturbing others."

Others are praising the lamp for its style and function, with one saying: "They look good in any room, bathroom, bedroom, or kitchen. They brighten up the shelving in the living room. They can be easily moved about to suit changes in decor or mood, and if charged up, could be very handy in a power cut. Love the style."

Another wrote: "It's so cute and functional. I don't have any spare plugs in the bedroom, so this is so handy to have. I can charge it easily with the included USB (cable only, so you need a USB plug!), and it lasts ages. The three light strength options are a nice touch when you want ambient light or reading light, and it's very lightweight."

Molecular Industrial Metal Table Lamp

If you're more into retro-futuristic pieces but don't want to look for an antique, this Molecular Industrial Metal Table Lamp is a great alternative that looks just as impressive. This one also has 50% off, bringing the price down from £30 to £15.

The lamp has a metallic frame, and the light comes from a double-layered glass globe on top that rotates and moves. At 42cm high, it's a bit taller than a conventional table lamp, but it's a perfect statement piece for the living room, and could also work as a desk lamp.

"Great lamps, look lovely in my bedroom as bedside lights", said one shopper, while another wrote one of these lamps can "make your sitting room stand out".

Another shopper said: "A nice little lamp that is ideal for my desk." However, they warned the lamp doesn't come with a bulb, adding: "You’ll need to buy a bulb separately as it is not included."

Emil Rattan Table Lamp

The cheapest of the five, the Emil Rattan Lamp, has been discounted by a whopping 75%, slashing the price from £25 to just £6.25.

This great little lamp is a great choice for fans of a more bohemian, natural look, as it comes with a wooden base and a hand-woven rattan shade. The inverted lampshade makes it look a little like a candle, which adds a nice homely touch.

It's also quite compact, measuring H 18cm x W 18cm x D 18cm, and plugs into the wall with a 1.5m cable.

Despite its smaller size, shoppers are saying it's bright. One said: "I am really pleased with this lamp and it looks very stylish on my unit. Although it is small, it gives off a good light."

Another wrote: "Fantastic, very nice, I am using it in my bedroom. Light is bright."

However, one shopper thought that due to its shape, it's actually too bright, saying: "The lamp itself is very nice, but it needs a diffuser to cover the light bulb. Even with the lowest 2.5-watt bulb, it's still very glaring when you turn it on. If this doesn't bother you then it's fine."

Bobble Retro Ceramic Table Lamp

If you're among those who want their lamps to make a statement, the Bobble Retro Lamp is an excellent choice. It comes in two sizes and three shades, although at the time of writing, only the small white version is on sale, discounted by 50% from £35 to £17.50.

This lamp channels a midcentury design, with a ceramic sculptural base and a classic barrel lampshade. The heavy base gives it a more luxe feel, while its neutral white shade "goes with everything", according to one shopper. In their review, they said: "Very retro. Looks good in any room. We got the white. Goes with everything. We have it in the living room."

Dunelm customers are loving the design, with one saying: "Love this lamp! Looks great in my living room and is a great size for my table. Modern design as well."

Another wrote: "It looks amazing in my lounge, a lovely mid-century modern looking lamp. I’m very pleased with it."

One shopper commented on the size, saying: "I needed a small table lamp for my desk for when I'm working from home, especially now that it is getting darker sooner. This lamp is perfect. Not only is it the perfect size, but the retro styling really makes a statement."
