Soap scum on glass shower screens has long been a frustration for homeowners, often leading to costly cleaners and hours of scrubbing to restore their shine.

However, a new cleaning method which many say is both purse-friendly and incredibly easy, has recently gone viral online, and the secret ingredient can be found in the laundry aisle not the cleaning section.

The answer to your cleaning woes is tumble dryer sheets.

The trend gained traction after one Reddit user shared her astonishing results from using dryer sheets to clean her glass shower panels.

In her post titled, "Dryer sheets are THE move!" she showcased the dramatic before-and-after transformation, leaving many amazed.

"Filled our dinky bin cleaning all 3 sides of our shower panels!!!" she said, adding, "Night and day difference!!!"

She explained: "I just drenched each dryer sheet, scrubbed (didn't have to scrub hard AT ALL) until there was a lot of soapy buildup, on either the shower panel or the sheets themselves.

"Rinsed off with water, then repeated until there were fewer streaks every time I scrubbed. Once I was happy, I rinsed the panels off and dried them with a towel!"

While she acknowledged there may still be a slight soapiness left behind from the sheets themselves, she showed off a noticeable improvement in her shower's appearance.

Other users on Reddit have also gone on to hype the method.

For those wondering how it works, another Reddit user chimed in to explain the science behind it.

"The dryer sheets contain 'dialkylester dimethyl ammonium methosulfate' – an acidic chemical with a pH value similar to white vinegar.

"This acid helps break down limescale, much like other cleaning products."
