Renovations can be a costly affair, often running into the £100,000 mark to completely overhaul your home.

And it's not just interiors that can burn a hole in your wallet as sprucing up the garden can also rack up a hefty bill.

A TikTok user, @little_savage_life, has taken to the platform to document her family's garden makeover journey. In a recent video, she showed the first 20 months of their ambitious project.

The woman explained in her footage: "When we first viewed this house we weren't sure that the garden was any bigger than our existing one. It wasn't until we moved in and started to get to the bottom of it."

Meanwhile, the family's initial uncertainty about the garden's size turned to astonishment as they began to clear away the overgrowth, revealing a much larger space than they had anticipated.

In her TikTok video, which has now become a sensation among gardening enthusiasts, she continued: "Then we realised it was so much bigger than we thought, it was just very grown over. You can kinda see there how much garden that we have claimed back.

"And the first year, here we decided to get rid of this horribly mostly dead hedge, we wanted to replace it with fencing, we had quotes between £7,000 and £14,000 to do that."

The woman detailed how, in the initial months, hefty sums were spent on skips. She added: "We started putting the batons on because no we were never going to pay £7,000 to £14,000 for someone to do this for us."

She proclaimed that rather than outsource, they took the task into their own hands for the subsequent five months. One year from when the first update hit TikTok, the garden project is still a work in progress.

But the original footage stirred quite a buzz, amassing 130,000 likes and a cascade of comments. An enthused fan commented: "Stunning, can't wait to see the final result."

Another chimed in with understanding: "I don't blame you not paying £7,000, what a rip off."

A third follower praised enthusiastically: "And you'll be really proud for doing it yourselves! Looks great so far!"
