Clean behind your radiators in 4 simple steps with this £4.30 foolproof hack
RADIATORS get extremely dusty on the side attached to the wall, but how on earth are you supposed to clean it?
Heatable demonstrate how to bleed a radiator
Dusty radiators aren’t only unpleasant to look at, they could be running up your heating bill. Dust in the fins of your radiator convector could stop heat from escaping and make your radiators less efficient. That’s right, just because you can’t see the dust doesn’t mean you don’t have to deal with it! Express.co.uk chatted to Lynsey Queen of Clean (@lynsey_queenofclean on Instagram) to find out how to clean behind your radiators.
Cleaning behind the radiator isn’t as tricky as you’d think - it’s actually a very quick and easy job to do when you know how.
This Morning’s Queen of Clean, Lynsey, said: “The inside of the radiator can get clogged up with dust and this is bad news for you because they won’t work as well and you’ll be paying more money for your heating.
“Cleaning the radiators is a bit of a tricky job but if you do it regularly enough, it will get easier with time.”
So, how do you do it? Express.co.uk reveals the four steps.

Step one
The first thing you need to do is consider your safety and turn the radiator off.
Lynsey said: “You need to switch the heating off because it’s easier to clean a cold radiator and they suck up dust while they’re switched on.”
When the heating is off, the convection current won’t be able to draw more dust up behind the radiator.
Step two
It’s time to bring out the trust hoover and suck up any dust around and under the radiator.
Some vacuum attachments will make it easy to reach behind the radiator.
This means you can easily get inside the fins, so you’ll be able to clean the back of the radiator easily.

Step three
If that’s not the case, Lynsey recommends buying a specific radiator cleaning brush.
She said: “Buying one of these is the easiest way to get right down inside it.
“Just remember to put a towel or newspaper underneath to catch all of the dirt and dust that falls out.”
This Long Reach Raditor Cleaning Brush has more than 1,300 reviews - and at £4.30, it's a bargain.
Step four
If you can’t get hold of a radiator cleaning brush, you can make your own.
Lynsey said: “You can just tape a cloth to the end of a stick and use that instead.”
Alternatively, blow a hairdryer on the highest setting through the gaps in the radiator - this should push out all of the excess dust down there, Lynsey said.
Step five
To finish off the cleaning job, you’ll want to wash the visible side.
Fill up a bucket with warm, soapy water and use a damp sponge to wipe down the radiator.
Wipe it off with a dry cloth to prevent rusting, and then turn your attention to the wall above the radiator and do the same.
