How to clean mould off the ceiling - the seven steps
Step one
Start by checking what your ceiling is made of first.
If your ceiling is made of a porous material, such as wood, consult an expert as mould can be very difficult to remove from these materials completely.
Where non-porous materials are used, you can learn how to remove mould from the ceiling yourself.
Step two
Before you start, choose what product you’re going to use to get the job done.
White vinegar, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide are all suitable options.
Step three
Get yourself ready to tackle the job by putting on some old clothes, gloves, goggles and a face mask.
Cleanipedia points out that, while this might seem excessive, it’s crucial as mould can be dangerous.
Then, close the door and open the window as you don’t want mould spores to float elsewhere in the house while you’re at work.

Step four
Use a stool or stepladder to reach the ceiling.
Make sure it’s secure and stable on the floor - you may need to ask someone to hold it for you.
Step five
Scrape away any paint in the mouldy area to expose mould that might be growing underneath it.
Step six
Apply your chosen cleaner, whichever option you went for.
You’ll need to scrub it into the surface, rinsing your brush or scourer regularly.
Step seven
Dry the area thoroughly when finished and all the mould is gone.
This is crucial as leaving a wet surface will just encourage more mould to grow.
