The celebrities Brits would hate most to be stuck in a broken-down car are Elon Musk, Piers Morgan - and Meghan Markle.

A survey, of 2,000 adults, found on average they could withstand less than 10 minutes of someone like Musk or Morgan’s chatter before becoming ‘completely fed up’.

Fourth on the list were ‘any of the Kardashians’ - followed by Jeremy Clarkson, with Joey Essex, also appearing in the top 10.

Although ‘Marmite’ Clarkson also appeared on the list of people Brits would enjoy having in the car. David Attenborough, Ryan Reynolds and David Tennant were the three famous faces Brits would most like to be in a breakdown with.

The research was commissioned by Green Flag, whose spokesperson said: “Usually you don’t get to choose your breakdown buddies.

“When you’re stuck somewhere you don’t want to be, or with people you don’t want to be with, speed is of the essence when it comes to being rescued.

“On the plus side, it’s fun to daydream about how you’d pass an hour trapped in a car with someone fun like Taylor Swift or Hugh Jackman.”

If locked in a broken-down car with a celebrity, 24% would pass the time by taking selfies - while 23% would try and get them to spill the beans on the celeb lifestyle.

A further 16% would try and start ‘Carpool Karaoke’ and have a sing-song, while just under a tenth (eight%) would ‘beg’ for a follow on social media.

Just under three in 10 (28%) of respondents admit they have a low tolerance for annoying behaviour when in a broken-down car. Constant complaining (64%), panicking or over-reacting (52%) and blaming others for the situation (42%) were the biggest annoyances.

And more than seven in 10 (71%) of people who have had an irritating breakdown partner in the past say they’re likely to simply avoid ever travelling with that person again.

Calmness (62%), patience (60%) and a sense of humour (53%) were deemed the traits most valuable in a breakdown partner.

When it comes to being stuck in a broken down vehicle, after personal safety (54%), the most important thing to Brits was speed of rescue (48%) - even more than access to food and water (31%).

Green Flag’s spokesperson added: “Being broken down is one of the most stressful situations you can find yourself in. But as long as you have the right people around you, it can even be enjoyable in its own strange way, and lead to some funny memories being made.

“We aim to get to customers within an hour, meaning that even if you’re stuck in the car with Piers Morgan – it won’t be for too long.”
